disposable passwords Patch Tuesday: Microsoft patches 49 vulnerabilities

On Tuesday, Microsoft issued patches for 49 vulnerabilities in their systems and programs. This is the first time Microsoft fixes many vulnerabilities in one patch Tuesday.

The company resolved the flaws in a series of 16 security bulletins. Three of the bulletins solve a total of 34 vulnerabilities, while four bulletins will focus on only one vulnerability each.

Microsoft ranked four of the 16 bulletins as critical because most patch vulnerabilities allow an attacker to control an infected computer without user interaction.

Ten of the bulletins are rated as important, and only two are of moderate risk.

The company advises users to prioritize the installation of MS10-071 bulletin, which fixes problems in Internet Explorer 6, 7 and 8. This month, two critical vulnerabilities found in IE, and Microsoft patched a total of 10 vulnerabilities in its browser.

Microsoft also solved one of the four vulnerabilities exploited Stuxnet: two others had previously patched, so there is still a pending vulnerability.

So far, Microsoft has released 86 security patches in 2010, so it is likely to reach the hundreds of patches until the end of the year.

The company has published a table (in English) to help its users learn and detect new patches that should be prioritized according to their needs.
